Fire Prevention Week

I know fire safety is important an all, but every year we have "National Fire Prevention Week"

I just heard the first ads for it on the radio and apparently in the name of keeping it fresh this years theme is "preventing fires in the home"

I just always find it odd that the government wastes MY fucking money on airtime to suggest that everyone adopt some "new policy" (even if just for the week ya know) on fire. As if for 51 weeks of the year most folks hold a laissez-faire attitude towards fire.

I like to imagine a more "hip" take on it to popularize it with the youth, some slacker kid on a couch playing video games when his buddy runs in and said "DUDE the whole upper story of your house is on FIRE" and the other guy saying "Meh- check it out, I got the hyper-cannon" and the other guy saying "DUUUDE NOT COOL, it's fire prevention week" then maybe a cut to them in firefighter gear with the now-put-out fire smouldering in front of them giving thumbs-ups or whatever with some tagline like "your house on Fire- NOT COOL!!"

Sorry I am sure I've railed about this before but it just started up again and I had to vent

I mean, why not have a "falling down a flight of stairs prevention week"

i agree that, while the message is a good one, stepping back and looking at some of the crap out there serving as public service announcements is a bit absurd.

Or the fact that they are focusing on HOMES on fire this year. "Dude, forest fires were sooo last year..."

I just dropped a little piece of burning stuff on the rug by accident. ANY other week and I would have been all "meh" but in this fire prevention week I quickly stamped on it so as to extinguish it and make potential fire impossible

Just thought I would praise Fire Prevention Week after being so harsh on it earlier, had this happened a week ago the consequences could have been DIRE
