I actually just watched the first Iron Man again last night. That's another one of those movies that I could watch at least once a week and not get sick of it.

He was in the first one, wasn't he? May have been a very quick shot.

Been thinking of watching it again myself the last few days.
I'm still shocked that actually made a movie about Iron Man good.

I got the first film for my birthday and watched it over the weekend, it's a fine film.
Nick Fury appeared in the after-credits bit, talking about the Avengers initiative

This film comes out tomorrow (or if you are a nerd, it comes out tonight at midnight.)
Spank about it here!

I've heard it's a letdown after the first. I really hope this is not the case.

I don't believe reviewers. Because since I was more than an infant I've been intelligent enough to make my own decisions regarding what I think is "good" or "bad" and not have others tell me what I should think.
Sadly the rest of the world has not caught up to me in this regard and must be told what to enjoy or be disgusted with.

I was actually referring more to normal people in other countries. They've said it's good, but not up to par with the first, which was great.

Oh well foreigners count even less. Especially the Frenchies.

My cousin saw it the other night. He liked it, but he's 17, so what does he know?

it was fucking awesome.
there were great little bits of insight into the darker recesses of tony's brain, but they kept it light enough to not be dragged down by gravitas. cheadle expertly stepped into rhodey's shoes. sam rockwell can do no wrong - i swear i haven't seen a movie with him in it where i've not been impressed.
the action scenes were fantastic - i don't care if i sound like a fanboy, but seeing war machine light it up with the minigun was freakin' sweet.
starting to be unnecessary to say it, but remember to stay after the credits.

You ARE gushing like a fanboy.
It was damn good though.
SPOILERS
ScarJo is 90% Tony's new assistant and 10% actual ass kicking Black Widow in the film. They never even refer to her as BW during the film. And her "reveal" as Widow was kinda anticlimactic. Well let's just have her sit down in the diner in her SHIELD uniform. hrmmff.
Mickey Rourke was FANTASTIC. Rockwell was good too, but I wish he had come across as a little more calculating and less buffoonish comic relief villain.
A cameo by Mrs. Bambi Arbogast! I laughed. I don't think anybody else got it.
I can see where people are complaining about the disjointedness of the story. It seemed like a lot of B-level crises mixed together rather than an A-Level threat. Tony's palladium poisoning and his daddy issues weren't threatening with a capital T, and the big showdown with Vanko at the end was woefully short.
I noticed Gennady Tarto...oskovy..vitch (whatever the hell his name is) in the credits as having designed the whole fight sequence at the end. Looking back, I can see that whole battle as if it were designed in his hyperkinetic animation style.
All in all, an extremly gratifying and satisfying sequel and an awesome Comic Book movie. I'm giddy to see Thor and Cap next year!!

yeah, anticlimactic to those of us who already knew, but a surprise to those who don't.

well, like i said - a perfect counterpoint to stark, who is always in the moment but says the right thing, whereas hammer WANTS to be that guy, but rehearses too much and even though what he says SOUNDS off-the-cuff, it's really obvious it's overly scripted. he's just a joke of a man compared to stark, and that's how he was portrayed.

who's the fanboy now? i don't even get that reference...

i think the daddy issues and the palladium toxicity both piled on top of the main threat of whiplash caused his little personal crisis in the middle, which made sense. they could've drawn out the FINAL BOSS fight a bit more, but there had already been so much fighting at that point. the final whiplash suit was awesome, tho.

Bambi Arbogast is/was Tony's secretary through much of the 80's/early 90's. She's a tough minded, older woman in her 50s and didn't take guff from anyone, including Tony. I think she got lost in the continuity shuffle of the Heroes Reborn reboots.
Tony says "Bambi, is it?" to an extra when he comes into Pepper's office in the middle of the film and brings her the strawberries.
