Winter Classic - Sabres vs. Penguins

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Man, Rogue II, that's... too much information.

Because someone was bound to do it, here are this year's match-ups and my predictions:

EAST:
Canadians/Bruins (Canadians in 4)
Penguins/Senators (Pens in 4)
Devils/Rangers (Devils in 5)
Capitals/Flyers (Caps in 5)

WEST:
Red Wings/Predators (Wings in 6)
Ducks/Stars (Ducks in 6)
San Jose/Calgary (San Jose in 6)
Colorado/Minnesota (Minnesota in 7)

I'm very worried about Detroit. They won the President's Trophy again this year, but they shit the bed against their own division. The fact that they drew the Preds in the first round is worrisome in that Detroit didn't fare well against them all year.

The Devils were dominated by the Rangers this year. I hope they can beat the Rags, but it will probably take 6 or 7 games.

I'll be happy if the Canadians or Red Wings win the Cup, but I'd be even happier if the Senators, Rangers, and Flyers all lose in the first round.

And I'd like to thank the Leafs for cashing in that Karma check on Ottawa. Mark Bell hit Alfredson. It looked very similar to the hit Neil put on Drury last year...but according to the Sens last year it was a "clean hit", but now that it happened to them, it was a vicious elbow.

That worries me a bit also.

The Jenning's and President's trophies, 2 of the leagues top 5 scorers, both goaltenders in the top 5 GAA. Some would say the Wings should be the heavy favorite. I say that could be setting them up for a fall.

Plus the fact they only played good after the 9 game losing streak (rather than excellent play before the skid) worries me some more.

But I'm an optimist - GO WINGS!

My picks (as I posted elsewhere):
East
Montreal in 5
Pens in 6
Philly in 6
Jersey in 5

West
Wings in 6
Sharks in 6
Wild in 7
Stars in 6

Flyers LW Patrick Thoresen taken to hospital after being hit in groin by Green's shot

WASHINGTON (AP) -Flyers left wing Patrick Thoresen was taken to the hospital for tests after getting hit in the groin by a shot during Philadelphia's 5-4 loss to Washington on Friday night.

"He's going to the hospital to get an ultrasound done on his testicles. It's bad enough they may have to remove one," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "Right now, we're not sure how serious it is, but there's a chance he may need surgery."

Thoresen blocked Mike Green's shot with about 6 1/2 minutes left in the game, then dropped to the ice, writhing in pain. Moments later, Washington scored to tie the game 4-4.

"Obviously, I'd have liked to see a whistle," Flyers coach John Stevens said.

Thoresen was helped off the ice and taken to the locker room.
There are so many ways to comment on this story:
1. Sweet Jesus!
2. He's a hockey player - he'll be back in the next game.
3. I love John Stevens remark about the whistle.
4. And you thought Slicker's Mom was a ball buster.
5.

Man...I saw the replay of the goal and couldn't tell where he got hit, but you could tell he was hurting.

*San Jose shitting the bed ftw!

*Sean Avery needs his testicles knocked into his throat for the way he "screened" Brodeur yesterday. You wouldn't even see that shit in a beer league game. Fuck that guy.

*Marc Savard: Hero.

Avery's an idiot. Grapes said it best: "I've known that kid since he was 16. Once a jerk, always a jerk."

Too bad the Habs couldn't have put the hammer right down on Boston last night, I think Montreal/Pittsburgh could be the best series of the entire playoffs if it ever came to that. Here's hoping.

The Wings really got sketchy there in the third - not good. At least they're still in the driver's seat, a win in the next game will let them easily slide through into the 2nd round.

Dallas can suck balls. Fuck Brad Richards and his goddamned playoff brilliance.

I hope the Sharks can rebound from that horrendous loss (after going up 3 zip in the first 5 minutes the other night) to win that series.

That San Jose loss is why Buffalo didn't want to fork over the big bucks to Brian Campbell. He was on the ice for all of Calgary's goals and then gave the puck away in his own end with the goalie pulled. Lucky for him, the guy missed the net.

I wanted it to get sketchy. Sketchy is what RB and I needed in that game in order for our game 5 tickets to be of use. :beard:
