True Blood

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

This is more popular than Curb Your Enthusiasm or Deadwood? What the fuck? Then again, there are people watching The Clone Wars and the fake Knight Rider.

I'll take some of the blame. I didn't watch Deadwood and probably should have. Maybe someday I'll try watching the dvds.

I missed the very begining of last night's True Blood, but I'm not worried since they re-air the same episode 50 times between now and Sunday. But as far as HBO series go, I like Rome better.

Deadwood was a dozen times better than Sopranos. And I love Sopranos. Haven't watched Rome yet, but I intend to.

I only saw a few episodes of The Sopranos. It started before I got HBO, and I just don't have the patience to start watching shows half way through the series.

Honestly, since I got back from Korea in 2000, Rome and True Blood are the only shows I've actually gone out of my way to watch (not counting sports and documentaries). Apologies to anyone working for a TV network.

The funniest part about the show is that my wife gets indignant whenever I say I don't like it, even though she plans her life completely around it. "You're just not giving it a chance because you don't like vampires! If you'd watch it, you'd like it!" No, I've been subjected to about four full episodes. One was plenty to know I didn't care for it, and I gave it a full chance because I wanted to like it. The whole "gay vampires eating pudding" aspect is only sort of an anti-bonus.

But that blood pudding is probably Tiết canh, which is a traditional dish of blood soup in Vietnamese cuisine.Tiết canh is made from raw blood, usually duck, finely chopped stir-fried duck meat, sprinkled with crushed peanuts and chopped herbs such as Vietnamese coriander, mint, etc. This isn't one of my top ten puddings. It sounds so nasty, I don't think a ShamWow could clean it up. That fucker Billy Mays probably bathes in it.

Vietnamese cuisine can be excellent, but there are things I take pains to avoid. That's one of them.

Some people say that Billy Mays can be excellent, but there are things I take pains to avoid. Billy Mays is one of them.

Billy Mays would cut off your balls and sell them back to you for $19.99 each if you gave him the chance.

She was fucking obnoxious as hell. I wanted her killed off the episode following her first appearance. Plus, she killed Milton!!! :frus: I was glad to see her go.

Anyways. I'm still very much into this show and I am sad that there is only one more episode left.
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

Her getting naked every episode kinda made up for her killing Milton.

The way this one ended, I doubt I'll watch the second season.

It's back in a month, so I'll have to deal with my wife watching it all summer. She's read the books (I tried, too, and the writing style is worse than Dan Brown, who I'd rather stick a broomhandle in my peehole than read an entire book by) and was actually watching the show on OnDemand to see exactly where they differed.

From what she's said, I can drop a huge spoiler from future books than will piss everyone the fuck off.
Bill is only in the picture for probably another season, and is replaced by that long-haired puss Eric, after which Sookie basically becomes a whore fucking anything that's supernatural. This could actually be a good thing if she keeps getting nekkid. She also finds out she's half-fairy and her grandfather is like a million years old.

As I posted elsewhere:

Late to the party because I was moving last Sept so I missed the first several weeks and fell behind, never caught up on On Demand until this past week when I watched all 12 episodes as well as the Season 2 premiere.

Awesome show, lame acting at times but still a very fun ride. I'm in this one for the long haul.

Nice to see Sobotka from The Wire and EB Farnum from Deadwood paired as the town police. It's like an HBO All Stars, of sorts.

and 'Nark, I'm glad to read that they are going to detour some more in season 2...cuz that thing you posted with spoiler tags is indeed stupid.

They apparently have detoured quite a bit. Bill was a superdouche in the books and is out of the picture by now while Sookie is fucking Eric. And Lafayette was actually dead at the end of the first novel, after being a non-entity.

However, the fairy thing is apparently coming to light right now. Even Mrs A doesn't like the way the show's going, and I suspect people will drop it in huge amounts when they actually say Sookie is a fairy.

I actually saw the entire episode from last week, and the ending, with the vampire showing up in the newsroom and ripping the anchor's spine out, was about as bad "Saturday morning cartoon" as I've ever seen.

They need to drop this and bring Deadwood back, goddammit.

I was underwhelmed by most of what I saw of season 2 as well. My friend was all gungho about how awesome it was and I was very "feh" by what I saw.

'nark, might I offer up a couple of suggestions at much better programming.

Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy. Both excellent shows.

"You're an idiot, Starscream." -- Megatron, Transformers:The Movie
