What have you watched lately?

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

I've seen the movie a few times on HBO. It is great. I haven't seen the TV series.

I will say they did the Reevers justice in the movie. I was disappointed they only mentioned them in the show and showed only the ship. River Kicks Ass

I watched Cocaine Cowboys the other night on SHO but fell asleep half way through. What I saw was awesome. Extremely entertaining and very interesting. Shit was absolutely crazy. Can't wait to finish it.
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

I saw Serenity before Firefly also and wasn't crazy about the movie. It wasn't bad, but I was a bit lost and felt like I needed to know what happened before. I'm still not sure what made me watch the series since I wasn't crazy about the flick, but I'm glad I did. And now that I've seen the series the movie is much better.

I'd still like to get around to watching the series . . . I have the movie on DVD but haven't seen it since it was in the theaters in 2005.

I watched Batman Begins again last night in preparation for tonight's viewing of The Dark Knight. It was good but pretty long, but I did start it at 11 p.m. so that may have added to it.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Mallrats. I've seen it about 5 times, maybe more. There is one scene I never quite got. When Shannon Dougherty runs into the guy that is trying to see the Sailboat, he says "Brenda". I never quite understood what he said or why she slapped him. But my wife was watching it with me and explained that Brenda was Shannon Dougherty's character on 91201.

Broken Lizard's Club Dread. Because it was on. Not as good as Supertroopers.

Watched The Mist the other day. Really enjoyed this one. Frank Darabont knows how to adapt some Stephen King work to the big screen, first The Shawshank Redemption, then The Green Mile, and now The Mist. Dude is a monster. :yeaha:  :yeaha:

I saw Pineapple Express. Hilarious movie. James Franco is especially funny in it. It's not really a stoner movie like Cheech and Chong, though. It's more like a movie about stoners.

I wish someone other than Will Ferrell was still capable of making funny movies without a shitload of pot references. I'm not bothered by the chronic or have any problem with anyone using it (though I never have), but, fuck, it's not always funny.

I think it's funnier than 99% of comedies that come out (and that don't obviously suck ass, like Fill-In-The-Blank Movie) involve stoners in some major way, and show them smoking, and there's a tiny note in the rating box that says "Drug use." But if someone even looks at a cigarette, there's a HUGE separate box that appears above the rating that says, "This movie contains an instance of tobacco usage." I'm the same with tobacco as I am with pot (though I did smoke a couple of cigarettes once when I was shitfaced drunk), but doesn't it somehow seem a bit off-kilter to do that?

(BTW, I'm not dissing anyone here by using the word "stoner." But if a character does absolutely nothing but smoke pot, what the fuck else applies to them?)

it is to the stoners.

well, that's all part of the bigger picture of legal versus illegal drugs and the fact that there are certain political issues that won't ever be resolved for a long LONG time (drugs, abortion, gay marriage) because then the politicians won't have a platform to rail against to drum up the most votes. basically, it is in the best interest of our government for illegal drugs to be glorified. that way, they can arrest a kid for holding a dimebag and fine his parents, or whatever, and make more money. they can also get minorities into prisons easier that way, then tell you about the over-crowded prison system, get you so scared out of your mind that you have to buy a few more deadbolts and an alarm system because we're simply being over-run with criminals, and pile on top of that the constant imminent threat of terrorism and you've got a populace ready to shut themselves in for good, drink all the alcohol they can get their hands on, and thank the government for taking away their freedoms one by one. why care about the environment when you have to be scared of your neighbors?

over-weight?

Caught the last half (about) of Amazon Women on the Moon. I normally don't tune into movies I've not seen in the middle, but figured this was skits, so there wasn't a plot, so it wouldn't hurt. It wasn't bad, but not nearly as funny as The Kentucky Fried Movie. Most jokes either didn't quite go far enough, or went way too far. One skit of Ed Begley Jr as the son of the Invisible Man (who thinks he's invisible and runs around naked) was fucking hilarious, but the rest was only "pretty amusing."
