There is only one true Robin. His name is Tim. Another is better known by that alias, but he has grown into his own man now.

Edit: Here's the real reason Harper Row is a lousy choice.

I read your comment, and my immediate reaction was, "Huh. That's an odd choice. He's a bit old, and I'm sure he'd be over the sidekick game by now. But maybe he sees it as the next step in his training to be the ultimate street-level DC hero. And he has ties to Jason Todd of some sort that fuck Scott Lobdell."

Took me several minutes to recall an article I read a while back about an urchin who was destined to play a big role in Batman's future.

Harper Row.

Roy Harper.

ONE FUCKING LETTER DIFFERENT.

Seriously, guys, put a bit more fucking effort into it. Or at least go full-on stupid introduce a new speedy named Grace Dickson.

It appears one awesome parallel universe of Batman's fate is to be resurrected. I waited on posting the news until an interview CBR put up today makes it obvious it will be awesome, and not in the Liefeld sense of the word.

Oyes.

Guess you won't be hanging around here too much longer, eh, Bats?

They're only doing it because they saw how well it worked in our Forums.

Because posting it in one Topic isn't enough.

Hah! DC, you have no shame. And you're officially out of ideas.

As the de facto Batman thread...
“Batman kills The Joker…That’s why it’s called ‘The Killing Joke’" - Grant Morrison.
http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/20 ... ling-joke/
While the big news to come out of Kevin Smith’s new “Fatman on Batman” interview with Grant Morrison is the new title for his long-teased Wonder Woman graphic novel, the most interesting part of the discussion may be when the subject turns to Batman: The Killing Joke.

The influential 1988 one-shot, by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland, is perhaps best remembered for The Joker’s shooting of Barbara Gordon, leaving the once and future Batgirl paraplegic. But after listening to Morrison’s interpretation of the book’s ending, Smith realizes the impact of The Killing Joke is far greater: “Alan Moore secretly wrote the last Batman story.”

That’s because, as Morrison sees it, the final scene doesn’t simply depict the Dark Knight and his arch-nemesis sharing a laugh as the police cars arrive. Oh, no.

“No one gets the end,” the writer says, “because Batman kills The Joker. [...] That’s why it’s called The Killing Joke. The Joker tells the ‘Killing Joke’ at the end, Batman reaches out and breaks his neck, and that’s why the laughter stops and the light goes out, ’cause that was the last chance at crossing that bridge. And Alan Moore wrote the ultimate Batman/Joker story — he finished it.”

His mind clearly blown, Smith replies, “Get the fuck out of here! ” before Morrison continues: “But he did it in such a way that it’s ambiguous, so people will never have to be sure, which means it doesn’t have to be the last Batman/Joker story. It’s brilliant!”

“You’ve third-eyed me and fucking shattered my world,” Smith concludes. “That changes the framework from which I’ve viewed that story forever. [...] Alan Moore secretly wrote the last Batman story.”

“Of course he did,” Morrison agrees.

However, Moore has never viewed The Killing Joke as positively as either of those two, saying in a 2000 to interview that, “Brian did a wonderful job on the art but I don’t think it’s a very good book. It’s not saying anything very interesting.”
Its an interesting way to read that last page, but I ain't buying it.

The first time I ever read that (I was 14ish?) I thought there was something hinky about the way the laughter abruptly stopped. I was like "Did he knock him out? Did he just KILL him??" But the guys at the comic shop and my friends shot me down. Since they were all more experienced comic readers than me and I had just started collecting in earnest, I deferred to them and never thought about it again. But I distinctly remember noticing the siren was still going and the laughter was not.

I think it's a plausible argument if the book wasn't intended to be in continuity and was retcon defacto'd in when they decided to make Barbra into Oracle later on. Bolland seemed to think that was what's going on. And he'd know since he was looking at the script while drawing it.

New 52 Batman Timeline.

A microchip? Seriously? You can't see me, but trust me, I'm rolling my eyes so hard I'm picking up 7-10 splits.

I don't recall them actually revealing how Barbara is able to walk again.

And I don't think Gordon knows Bat's secret.

I always pictured a sort of Austin Powers explanation for Babs walking.

Dick: Barbara! You're walking! How did this happen?
Barbara: It just did.
Bruce: You're not supposed to question it.
Barbara (turning to face the reader): And neither should you. I'm Batgirl again. Just go with it.

That timeline doesn't give ages, but I'm still confused how 10 year old Dick is now in his twenties, four years after his parents died.

DC announced a new weekly Batman book starting next year. Fanboys started masturbating at the news. I guess none of them realized Batman has been essentially weekly for the past 20+ years.

Batman, Detective, Legends of the Dark Knight, Shadow of the Bat, Chronicles, Gotham Knights, Confidential, Batman Inc, Streets of Gotham, Dark Knight, etc etc ad nauseum. And that's not even counting the endless miniseries, oneshots, Elseworlds, annuals and team books.

But you go ahead and jizz because you're getting Batman "weekly" now.

Sad thing is, of all the superheroes, no matter how much I love the guy, Batman should be the last to have that many books. Three at the most has been what he can carry, and that's when you've got stellar teams like Grant/Breyfogle and Wolfman/Aparo at the same time, with a rotating team on the third. He has no superpowers, and fights bad guys in alleys, all while maintaining a secret ID. Guy doesn't have time for it. I'm not being snarky.

I still maintain that they should have kept it at two books, Batman and Detective Comics, when Bruce came back.
One book should have been Bruce (Batman) and the other Dick (Detective), at least for a while. Batman being in two places at once could have easily reestablished Batman as a mysterious urban myth in Gotham.
