Re: star wars
Say goodbye to your little Star Wars men.
They still haven't confirmed, but packaged pics of the Falcon have leaked. The fact that they're suddenly willing to make such a humongous, expensive toy, especially in the midst of a plummetting economy, indicates to me that this line is not long for this world.
Hopefully it's cancelled after September, because I want that fucking Yarna.

Re: star wars
I had the exact same feeling (not going all JKE here btw)
And after reading your post actually articulating it I had a brainstorm
With the rising costs of pretty much everything, maybe HASBRO plans to do something like this
Crank out EVERYTHING they can, get it on shelves, then somehow "sell or lease" the rest of their term of holding the license to someone else- I have a feeling right now that the mid-term forecast probably shows a point-blank where no amount of profit can cover the inflation, at that point it would be wise to get whatever you can for the bag that is the licensing rather than hold it and pay for it while being unable to actually produce and distribute products without incurring huge losses
Just a theory but the line CAN't make the same huge money in light of the real-world situation, I would imagine

What the fuck is Hasbro thinking, launching a new line with an already 100 dollar vehicle and tis huge assed Falcon at the same time. I swear they must want sales on both to be low.

Re: star wars
You think they want them to fail, I think they're giving up on SW altogether and want to go out with a bang. Either way, there's a certain site full of dudes who think we're the dumb ones.

Re: star wars
While I don't think the line is near death yet, I definitely don't think it has the legs to continue until 2018. Maybe 2011, 2012 tops. Hell, I'd be fine with it ending this year had we got an AOTC Lars family as well. I'd also rather see them focus on the last of the unmade characters with speaking roles in the films than focus on making "2nd skiff guard from the right". But the huge-ass Falcon and AT-TE in one year? I really like the look of both of them, but I sworn off vehicles long ago. But even if I was, it would be a tough sale. Sure, they look great, but we don't all have that kind of disposable income. Especially in a time where gas prices are rising faster than a twelve year old's dick.
Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.

Re: star wars
I think it is a little bit ridiculous for them to release both ships in the same month. I posed a question about spacing them out in the Hasbro Q&A but it got all but laughed off. Fuck me, both the AT-TE and Falcon look insanely amazing, but that's a lot of change to drop all in one go (and then there's all the other stuff coming out then, too).
I don't know if it will end soon (and I don't really think so) but they need to hurry up and make the last remaining figures we all want (including "definitive" versions of all the main characters at least on par with the wave 1 Vader and Obi-Wan).

Re: star wars
Since we can hold a more civil (and profane) discussion here, which main characters still lack definitive versions (and no counting lesser characters who need 'em, like Barriss or Zam), and which characters that are secondary desperately need figures (not including "third cantina alien from the left who's onscreen for one tenth of a second"--I'm thinking guys who talk or play a role but are definitely not major characters)?
No definitive version:
Lando (any--they're all quite lacking)
ROTJ Luke
Hoth Leia
TPM Obi-Wan
AOTC Obi-Wan
TPM Anakin
Jar Jar Binks (love it or hate it, it's a fact)
Mace Windu
Emperor Palpatine
Dr Evazan
Jango Fett
Wedge Antilles
ALL NU SCUPT DUTCH VANDAR!!!!!!!! THIS IS A MUST HASBROW!!!!!!
ROTJ Jabba the Hutt
Wicket W Warrick
General Grievous
TPM and AOTC C-3PO's
Owen Lars (ANH)
Desperately need figures:
Owen Lars (prequel)
Cliegg Lars
Beru Whitesun
Tey How
Jocasta Nu
Jira
the rest of the Naboo Pilots
a few bazillion Padme outfits
Ben Quadinaros
Wioslea (pushing my definition, but she does buy the damned landspeeder)
most of the Ewoks
Considering how long they've had the license, that it's been three years since the last movie, and how many fucking shitty Lukes and Hans we get each year, it's really damned pathetic that the list is that long.

Re: star wars
A new Han would have to rock the shit to beat out ANH VOTC Han. I think we are just being fucked around with as far as ANH Luke goes. I really loved the pack-ins on the last couple of figures but I refused to buy them since they are not SA. The Ceremony Luke is really awesome except for the head, and it is even more galling because I happen to like VTSC pilot Luke's head! Of the figures you have listed, JEDI Luke, Evazan, and Hoth Leia are the ones I would really like most.anarky wrote:Considering how long they've had the license, that it's been three years since the last movie, and how many fucking shitty Lukes and Hans we get each year, it's really damned pathetic that the list is that long.
BTW, if anyone would like to trade an VTSC IG-88 for a VTSC pilot Luke, I still need that droid.
KISS MY ASS! kISS MY ASS! I'M THE BIGGEST HATER!!!
Re: star wars
Nark, I would add Queen Jamilla to that list of who needs a figure. She at least had a speaking role in AOTC. The only Lando that is a good Lando is the Skiff Guard version we got in 04.

Re: star wars
Since my SW collecting is already in decline, I'd buy these from your list:
No definitive version:
Lando (ESB, I'm fine with the ROTJ General and Skiff versions)
Hoth Leia (maybe)
Emperor Palpatine
Dr Evazan
ROTJ Jabba the Hutt (depending on what he came with)
Wicket W Warrick
Owen Lars (ANH)
Desperately need figures:
Wioslea (I guess, there are other Cantina/Jabba's Palace aliens I'd rather have)
most of the Ewoks
I'd also buy a decent ANH version of Ben Kenobi and a decent version of the Hoth Rebel trooper. I'm OK with the POTJ Ben, but try fitting him in the Landspeeder.

Re: star wars
Here's my thoughts on anarky's list. Why? Because I like wasting time talking about hypothetical toys.
Lando (any--they're all quite lacking) - Articulation could be improved, but I think the 2004 figures of Bespin, General, and Skiff Lando are all quite great. Though I would like to see another Bespin one without the cape. I think the Smuggler one is fine even with the weird eyes; he's only in there for a second so whatever.
ROTJ Luke - The 2009 DSII one better be great. I like both the 2004 and 2007 Jabba's Palace Lukes but the inaccuracies could be improved.
Hoth Leia - Agreed, and adding a holster and putting her in a Comic Pack won't do the trick.
TPM Obi-Wan, AOTC Obi-Wan - Hopefully the 2009 ones will do the trick.
TPM Anakin - Most of the 18 million 1999 ones are fine, I think, but articulation could be better (but I really don't care on this one).
Jar Jar Binks (love it or hate it, it's a fact) - We need a new TPM one and the unmade AOTC and (maybe) the ROTS one. I could go either way on a resculpt of the only AOTC one.
Mace Windu - If they did a better head sculpt on the 2007 one, it would be great. He also needs a cloak with much longer sleeves (look at him on Geonosis) - I think one of the Sith cloaks but in brown cloth would be fine.
Emperor Palpatine - Soft goods look like shit on him, so just redo it but in plastic.
Dr Evazan - Not really a main character by ANY stretch of the imagination, but I definitely want an upgrade. A new Ponda Baba could be pretty great too.
Jango Fett - I don't really hate the new one's color but it could be better (more gray). I'd also like to see more accurate holsters that strap all around his thighs (like on the plain-clothes one from last year; I can't believe they didn't put that on the Evolutions one).
Wedge Antilles - Just slap a new head onto the VTSC Luke body and call it a day.
ROTJ Jabba the Hutt - I like the 2004 one but he could be much more accurate.
Wicket W Warrick - He needs to be much smaller. The recent new Ewoks show how great it could be.
General Grievous - This is probably the #1 main character redo I want: much taller, with a cloth cape. It's kind of gay that they made a tall concept version (when he was originally going to be as short as the figures show), pre-cyborg version, and two cartoon versions before doing a proper movie version.
TPM and AOTC C-3PO's - Yes, no doubt. And a better-detailed, more articulated OT one, too, and a more accurate removable limbs one.
Owen Lars (ANH) - I'd rather have the AOTC/ROTS one first.
I also want some more R2-D2s with scene-specific stuff, and one in the goddamn R4-G9 mold without shit all over him already.
As for Han, the VOTC one is nearly perfect, but I'd like to see the holster be more accurate (as I mentioned about Jango).
Nearly every Tatooine Luke and ANH Leia suck monkey ass so they need to be redone too.

Um, excuse me. There is no place- NO PLACE- for lists like that here, young man. You take that shit elsewhere to a place where everyone else does them.

Re: star wars
I was just following anarky's and Rogue II's leads. Eat me.
I will add, though, that I really don't care about "the rest of the Naboo pilots." I do want a good one with a trenchcoat, though, preferably the black guy just for some visual diversity. I'd also like to see the rest of the pod racers and cantina characters who have their own close-ups. I used to think I wanted all the characters who have lines, but after seeing the voting lists elsewhere, I don't really need every single individual Imperial or Rebel who says "yes sir" or whatever. But I would still like all the characters who get mentioned onscreen (Tank, Captain Kagi, the bounty hunter from Ord Mantell, etc.). And all the Padmés and the main characters listed above. After that I think we can call it a day.

Re: star wars
The only characters whom I want are the podracers. I can assure you I'd buy them, ESPECIALLY if they came with their pod.
