More reasons to pass. Two big spoilers, though the first has already been spoiled by advance pics of toys:
The new movie hurls archaeologist Jones into the Cold War in 1957. He survives a nuclear blast in the desert in typically creative fashion and is reunited with "Raiders" flame Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen).
As speculated, the film has an alien connection, though far more subdued than the "Indiana Jones and the Saucer Men From Mars" story Lucas once envisioned.
He survives a fucking nuclear blast? How? And, more importantly, why? Meaning, what the fuck was he doing there?

He was looking for treasure.

I don't know, but it must have been stupid, so let's none of us go see it.
I'm just bustin' your balls, anarky. But I assume you're glad the alien aspect is subdued, at least?

Time, distance, and shielding. A big honkin' piece of concrete or granite would work.

That and he's Harrison fuckin' Ford. Nuclear weapons are no match for Han Solo.

Like I said, the "how" doesn't bother me as much as the "why." He's just wandering around on testing ranges, or something?

Maybe he was riding the Loch Ness Monster while chasing Bigfoot through Area 51. But, he went through the Bermuda Triangle and was inadvertently teleported to the south pacific where they were testing atomic bombs.
Seeing all this crap about the new movie is screwing me up. Like I mentioned earlier, I bought the IJ trilogy a couple weeks ago. I managed to watch Raiders of the lost Ark. I was going to watch Temple of Doom this weekend, but all the negativity surrounding this new movie kept me from going through with it.

Raiders is one of the PERFECT films of all time, the rest are just there

I will disagree with you here, mabs. All three kick ass. Indy IV will be like X3 or Spider-Man 3 or Jurassic Park /// or Highlander 2: a sequel I will pretend didn't happen.
The same critics who panned Speed Racer are loving this. Therefore, it sucks. I've always jokingly said you have to go with the opposite of what critics think, but, recently, it looks like it's becoming the gospel truth.
Rogue Deuce, don't let the negativity about IJ4 hamper your enjoyment of the first three. X3 doesn't make X-Men and X2 bad movies, so IJ4 won't make those three any less great than they are.

I don't think Harrison Ford will be alive in another 19 years to make another sequel. So I don't know what the fuck G Lu is yammering on about.

Coming Memorial Day, 2027: Indiana Jones and the Movie Premiere. As a incredibly ancient Henry Jones, Jr poops in his colostomy bag, his bastard son and his annoying whiny grandchildren head to Mann's Chinese theatre for the opening of a movie in the summer 0f 1977...and the Lucas Universe collapses in on itself.

Awesome! I'd definitely see that one.
I have to wonder why they took pains to delete the older Indy scenes from the DVDs of the Young Indiana Jones series. Mind you, I thought the show looked iffy way back when, and wasn't about to pay for them, but have since seen a few scattered episodes on History International (why???) and some of the "older Indy" scenes on YouTube.
My immediate guess is they contradict something in the new movie, and we know how Lucas likes to revise history and pretend no one remembers or has a record of how things were before to prove him wrong.

I agree. I really loved "Raiders" but was never really into the other two any more than say, "National Treasure." I think the chemistry between Ford and Allen was just awesome, but Willie and shorty were obnoxious to me and the adventures of Indy and his dad never really did it for me either.
Therefore, I am not expecting this film to be the second coming, so I won't get bent if it ends up being less than great. I don't feel like I have something on line here.
