I give up... how do I install a Japanese character set?

I'm finding in my research that all sorts of sites that have Japanese text display boxes instead of the symbols.

I figured it was an OS thing, so I went to Microsoft's site first. Their shit makes no sense. Big surprise.

I did a Google search and found a site that could be helpful. Unfortunately, it tells me where the upgrade for IE is on microsoft.com... and they've changed all the URL's to redirect to a page where you can only download IE7. As IE7 is apparently full of problems, I have no desire to do so.

So how the fuck do I display these characters?

i'm not really sure, but i'll do some research... i think you may be able to do it from a windows CD, too...

I think I figured it out. I clicked on another site from my search, and a popup window told me I needed to download a Japanese character set.

Why it hasn't told me that on every other site I've gone to that's in Japanese instead of displaying the boxes, I don't know. Microsoft blows.

Now I just need to know how to pronounce these silly symbols.
