so, wait... "marvel" toys is making image character figures??? wtf??????
http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/ ... 428920.cfm
weird. whatever. i'll definitely be picking up the savage dragon trifecta of star, superpatriot and dragon. probably madman. marv looks freakin' SWEET, that'll have to be my fourth version of marv, i guess (first mcfarlane version, deathrow version on the electric chair, and movie version being 1-3). maybe clownface and panda from "body bags". pitt, witchblade and darkness... meh. monkeyman and o'brien, never got into it, so probably not. same for judge dredd. ripclaw and stryker? no way. stryker looks like a real dud in this line anyway - those arms are poorly done.
just saw that the article is from FEBRURARY!!!! how did i miss this one? i must be slipping in my old age!

Marv is a definite...if I ever see him in stores. Looks incredible!
Savage Dragon looks pretty cool, except for the painted on chest hair. May pick him up.
Will these be in regular stores or specialty shops?

I think I read somewhere that WM was carrying them, so at least one "regular" store. Which is good, because figures that are exclusively at specialty stores cost too damned much.
I'm saying now I'm considering buying some but not all of these. If any of you want a piece of PITT who comes with a figure that you didn't want, I could pass on that turd. Dale Keown was probably the best artist of the "second batch" of Image folk, but that comic blew in ways no comic has blown before or since. And that's counting Liefeld, too.

a simultaneous "cool, easily obtainable" and "ah, shit... walmart".

i'm pretty sure we'll all end up with mostly the same left-over parts.

how would one even know, isn't issue 2 still delayed?

Who is the figure in the top row that looks like a cross between Spiderman and Captain America?

Superpatriot!!
He's supposed to look like that. He was a sort of spoof/homage to Cap in Larsen's early (never published and apparently bad) comics. In his first appearance in Savage Dragon, he'd been nearly killed and rebuilt as a cyborg.

that is "Star," originally from savage dragon... he's actually a REALLY interesting amalgamation of spider-man and iron man. basically on the outside he's a witty wisecracking up-beat hero like spidey, but the background story is that he's the body guard of rockstar peter klaptin (think tony stark before he became a douche... well, sort of...) who mysteriously disappears whenever star is around. well, the jokes on everyone, because klaptin originally tried to be star, but got his ass beat so hard that he hired someone to play star for him (chris robinson, think jim rhodes), but still wanted the wold to suspect him of being the hero. it's a pretty funny take on the whole celebrity/secret identity theme.

Never mind. Guess I should've looked at the pic instead of assuming who you were talking about.

When I looked at the article, Superpatriot was my first guess, but the pictures I found of him didn't match the figure...but I know characters tend to change their appearance from time to time.
Where have I seen Super Dragon before? Did he appear in the 90s X-men animated series or did he have his own series? A green dude with a lizard fin mohawk thing kind of stands out, ya know.

He had his own series, on USA (I think), for what it was worth. The series sucked Snigtad boners.

finally found a decent image of the figures INCLUDING the variants:
http://img19.imageshack.us/my.php?image ... up1vi8.jpg
i'm more interested in the variant dragon (with the wife-beater shirt) than i am about the shirtless version. that's based on the weird chest-hair treatment from the previous pics, though - and these look like they randomized the paint strokes a bit more. they might be the first ever double i get. second would be the superpatriot versions, one with and one without his mask on. freakin' sweet!
in the second wave there's supposedly a judge death variant (meh) and i heard at first there was a marv var. but that the information has been changed to an o'brien variant. either way, not as jazzed on those. the only thing i could see them doing with marv was the current one we've seen and one with bandages all over the place.

Fuck, I was afraid the wifebeater would be a variant.

it's an even-pack from what i can gather. 6 regulars, 2 variants, 8 figs to a case. i'm contemplating buying a case to make sure i get the ones i want and selling off the ones i don't, hence MT's "brilliant" strategy that i talked about over at actionfigs.
does marvel toys have a website yet, or what? where can i get more info straight from the source?
EDIT: just for shits and giggles, did a search on
ebay for the dudes... and WHY the fuck is RIPCLAW going for $40??? i guess that's going to the same guy who is excited about liefeld's return to image.
