Let us take time to remember seven years ago today
George W Bush was introduced to his favorite story of all time, "The Pet Goat."
Reviews for this masterwork can be found here, and I highly recommend reading them.
And one of our very own forumites (albeit one we'd probably like Jack the Ripper to get to, if he starts murdering forumites again) reads it here.

(Sorry if this offends anyone, but I'm sick of seeing real-time replays and endless lists of names. There's a difference between remembering and inflicting self-torture.
And fuck you if you can't take a joke.
And suck my balls, Grimlock.)

I wonder what our very own The Goat thinks?
I am a little sadder today. It's still hurts to think about.

Re: Let us take time to remember seven years ago today
Which is why I'm not turning on any news today, since everything is live broadcasts from memorial services, except for MSNBC, which was rebroadcasting the original news footage in real time, which is especially ironic considering Keith Olbermann has gone off on how tasteless it was for Republicans to play footage not once, but twice in the past week.

It seems like it's not being mentioned much at all on CNN, save for the list of names on the bar at the bottom.

This morning was all live broadcasts of memorials. CNN was in Manhattan and CNN Headline News was at the Pentagon.

Re: Let us take time to remember seven years ago today
I don't normally watch any news channels so I won't see any of the tribute stuff.
I was in Kuwait during the attack about 35 miles from the Iraqi border. We were getting ready to leave work and go to dinner. We had TV, so we watched it live.
I started working at the Pentagon in January 2002, so about 4 months after the attack. When I got to the Pentagon, the still had some stuff up regarding the victims. What I didn't like about that is that one of the boards labeled them as "Heroes". The people that died were just people who happened to go to work that day. They didn't really do anything "heroic." The attack at the Pentagon could have been a lot worse, but the plane hit the newly renovated wedge that had all of the upgraded reinforcement. And since it was new, not everyone had moved in yet. One lady I worked with had an office in the inner ring on the first floor in the wedge adjacent to where the plane hit. She was an older black lady who was only a few years away from retirement. She told me about the morning of the attack. The building is so massive, she didn't hear the crash...Just the fire alarm going off. She went out the office door into the hallway. When she looked left, all she saw was a cloud of smoke coming her way and headed down the hall to the right. The way she told it made the hair on my neck stand up.
And on the 1 year anniversary of the attack, I almost got ran over by the golf cart that was transporting Alan Jackson, (or whoever that country singer was that sang about sticking a boot up Bin Laden's ass...I don't know and don't care). He put on a concert in the center courtyard.

Re: Let us take time to remember seven years ago today
7 years and he's still at large. I think he'll die a free man (might, in fact, be dead already) because there are enough places in the world that HATE the U.S. that would be more than happy to help hide him and keep him safe. I'm reading the Blackwater book right now, and it paints a pretty damned bleak picture.
All politics aside, I'm still sad for the families that lost their loved ones that day - not least of all the firemen and police (if any police died - I don't remember) that responded to the call. They're heroes to me.

The tragic memories of the day have rendered him unable to speak.
Oh, FUCK! I almost forgot to order my September 11 Silver Leaf Commemorative. I want to frame it and hang it next to my Big Mouth Billy Bass, on the shelf by the Larry the Cable Guy DVD collection.

Re: Let us take time to remember seven years ago today
One thing that scared the hell out of me on 9/11 was less than 3 months before I was in DC on vacation and at the Pentagon twice a day for a week (There's a bus/subway terminal there).
I clearly remember two main things:
Seeing how low the planes were flying so close to the Pentagon and thinking "What if...?"
There was a construction project in progress that to move the bus terminal further away from the building...in case of a terrorist attack.
I went with my wife (then girlfriend) and one of her friends. Her friend's mom lived in Arlington and worked at the Pentagon. She was in the opposite side of the building when the plane hit.
