Californication

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Moderators: Zero, John Madden, Bob Ross, General Zod, Richard Simmons, Batman

Californication

Post by Diabolical »

With the new season kicking off next week on Showtime, I thought I'd see if any of you fuckers have seen it.

Initially I wasn't expecting much, but happened to catch the first episode when it first aired and loved it immediately.
David Duchovney is awesome and does a total 180 from his portrayal of Fox Mulder.

If you haven't seen it - Duchovney plays Hank Moody, a writer who's life is falling apart. He's an alcoholic, a sex addict, he hasn't written anything in years, his last book was turned into a cheesy romantic-comedy, his ex girlfriend (with whom he has a daughter) is getting married (and Hank is still madly in love with her), and he unknowingly sleeps with a his ex's fiance's 16-year-old daughter.

I finished rewatching the first season the other day. They sure as hell get a ton of story and great characterization in for a 30 minute comedy-drama.

haven't caught it, but i find it funny that duchovney is playing a sex-addict while getting help for being a sex addict.

although maybe it's a publicity stunt to get more google hits.
Life is short. STUNT IT!

If David Duchovny is a sex addict, why didn't we get to see Scully's tits in the movie?

Great show. Caught it when it originally aired on SHO last season, and loved it. Bought the DVD set shortly after it was released too. Thought I was the only one here (and elsewhere) that watched it - glad I'm not. :yeaha:
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

Nope, you ain't the only one. Hopefully they don't tone down the titties this season because of Hank's relationship.

I wanted to hate the show at first because it meant the pilot Kevin Smith was a part of (Manchild) wasn't picked up, but I loved it from the first episode.

And I hate how Californication seems to be almost ignored over the overrated Showtime shows like Dexter and Weeds.

I love Hank's agent Charlie (Evan Hanlder), he's awesome!

Can't wait to see what ol' Hank Moody gets into tomorrow night.

I did have to adjust my DVR to account for Family Guy, True Blood, Entourage, and Football. Hopefully I'll get around to it tomorrow night (still need to figure out the new schedule), if not, it should be Mon. night at the latest.

I thought this past episode was great.

Charlie and his wife are something else. Coke whores. Those videos of him in his office were hysterical!!!

Looks like Hank has a good job opportunity with writing that guy's biography. He seems pretty cool by the way.

Bill's daughter (can't think of her name right now, but the one that stole Hanks book) is really getting on my nerves.

Episode two was far better than the first one this season. The first, while good, lacked the punch of the first season. The second episode also set up the rest of the season far better.

Yeah, Mia (Bill's daughter) is pretty annoying. She's just an attention whore. And I get the feeling the shit is still going to hit the fan with her and "her" book.

I also see bad things coming for Marcy, especially after last week where Charlie flipped out when she did the coke and mentioned her rehab, and then this week when they had their own little coke party (which didn't make much sense).

Also, did you notice the billboard for "A Crazy Little Thing Called Love 2" in the first episode? Too funny.

As you live in the South (right?), you can recognize that a Coke whore is much better than an RC whore, as they are flat.

Their coke party didn't make sense at first, but with Charlie getting fired I could see him going back to some old habits. He, kinda like Hank was last season, is at rock bottom now. Hopefully he'll get his shit together, though it was funny laughing at him with that bib on.

Yea, I noticed the billboard but completely forgot about it. That's Hollywood. Funny indeed.
