Why do they bother?

Check this out. I found it while looking for a toy chest for my daughter.
Doesn't seem too bad a deal, does it? Add it to your cart and look at the shipping.
WHAT THE FUCK? Shipping is 65% of the price of the item and almost $40?!?
Honestly, man, I can understand why stores don't carry as many large items as they used to, since they get more profit from the large number of small items that are the same shelf space as one large item. So they offer larger stuff as online exclusives.
But, rather than charge ridiculous shipping prices, why don't all stores that do that offer free shipping to their brick-and-mortar locations? I have a feeling they won't sell too many at that price, with that shipping.
