I got an email from Circuit City today...
On May 19, 2009, Systemax Inc. purchased the Circuit City brand and website. Systemax Inc. has been in business since 1949. Systemax Inc. is a leading multi-channel retailer of computers, electronics, and industrial products in North America and Europe. Systemax Inc. is a publicly traded company on the NYSE under the symbol SYX.
The site is active again. Some of the stuff seems a bit overpriced.

I actually saw that yesterday. I thought it was hilarious that the main page specifically says they offer more than the old circuitcity.com or the retail stores, but they have something like 10%. Not like anyone's going to sue them for some truth-in-advertising law, but don't make a claim like that when it's immediately obvious it's not true; it ruins your credibility.

Looks like Systemax has been going through and buying out-of-business electronics retailers with bigger name recognition than themselves (Circuit City and Comp USA being the main ones), I guess to get the business of anyone who's too dumb to realize that they're out of business. Some other company did the same thing with the Montgomery Ward name. I think I'll claim K-Mart and Sears right now. :)
