Comedy Central Roasts

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Moderators: Zero, John Madden, Bob Ross, General Zod, Richard Simmons, Batman

Comedy Central Roasts

Post by Ran »

Anyone see the Roast of David Hasselhoff? I missed the beginning, but since it is Comedy Central, I'm sure they will replay it again and again. Not sure why they got Seth McFarlane to host it. Lots of Simpsons & South Park jokes directed towards him. So far the best line was from Greg Giraldo. He said "David, your liver is so dried, shriveled, and black, when someone puts their ear up to your side, they can hear someone say 'Watchu talkin' 'but, Willis?"

Roasts used to be funny. Now its like a contest to see who can be the most vulgar and drop the most f-bombs into their 30 second schpeil.

They also used to be limited to actually roasting funny comedians/ennes who had long careers in being funny. I think now they just roast whoever will agree to it. I mean, Pamela Anderson?

They usually get some really good burns in 'em, but their choice of guest/roastee has always been too easy of a target.
Greg Giraldo is usually the best roaster of them all.

The Hasselhoff Roast was great...some great comments about Hulk Hogan, Pam Anderson, I know they always rip on Greg Giraldo but I have his "Good Day to Cross a River" CD and it's fantastic, I like that guy.

They roasted her for charity. All the proceeds went to PETA.

Anyone here seen "The Onion: The Movie"?? Overall it is pretty fucking hilarious, it is prety much exactly like a super hilarious cross of "Airplane" and "Kentucky Fried Movie", only way more "edgy". There is a "roast" parody in it that is maybe only a minute long but is one of the more quotable and hilarious things I have ever seen.

Do yourself a favour (or a favor if you choose) and seek that movie out, you won't be disappointed
Vince, NO!!!!!

I'll check it out. I seem to recall seeing some sort of promotional material for it a few years ago, but didn't know what it was.

BTW, the best line ever from a roast is still, IIRC, from the roast of Jerry Stiller. That one guy who only ever appears at all the roasts and is really vulgar (like Snigtad-meets-Namblaman vulgar) and usually not at all funny responded to a song-and-dance number by Sandra Bernhardt with, "Sandra Bernhardt... Sandra Bernhardt... I wouldn't fuck you with Bea Arthur's dick!"

The James Franco Roast was last night. Overall, it wasn't that good.

It had its moments. Bill Hader and a couple others were ok. The concept seemed like a good idea because most of them were friends. I just thought overall it got overly repetitive and didn't find it as entertaining as some of the other roasts.
