Newest Arizona law

Post by anarky »

I think at this point it's safe to say that Jan Brewer only cares about political points with the far right, as she keeps signing laws that have no chance in court.

Okay, forget whether you think abortion is right or wrong for a moment. How the fuck are they planning to enforce this? What woman goes to a doctor and says, "Doctor, I think my baby might be black. I want an abortion." Even if someone were stupid enough to decide that, now that the law is passed, who would say it? Even if people did actually go that far, does the doctor, the clinic, and everyone else have to keep a running spreadsheet with a column to check off for reason, including "race" and "gender"?

Seriously, this is one of the most obvious cases I've ever seen of "this law won't actually do anything because it's unenforceable, but will make it look like I'm leading the crusade on a cause my political base cares about."

easy!
  • first, pass all these laws you can't enforce without reading minds.
  • then say "we can't enforce these laws without mind-reading devices".
  • then get funding and legislation passed that allows you to develop mind-reading technology.
  • hire and train people to utilize that technology
  • thought police can finally bust you for your dirty thoughts
basically, she saw 'minority report' and though 'shit, how do we GET there?'

I'm trying to fathom what events led to such a vague, stupid, unenforcable law being written let alone passed. And I think Arizona might be moving ahead of Ohio as my favorite dipshit conservative state.

But the perverse part of me wants a black woman to go in and ask for an abortion specifically because she's afraid its a WHITE baby.
"Is the father white?"
"Nosir. He dark as night." "Then why would you think--"
"Get this white devil baby outta my womb!!"

Then watch the ensuing legal drama unfurl all the way to the supreme court.

Oh, you wacky Arizonians and your wacky new "Birther" Law!! You make me giggle uncontrollably.

I swear, the Arizona State Congress would make the most hilarious sitcom on network TV. Is anyone developing it? They should be. It can replace 2 1/2 Men.

To her credit, Brewer vetoed the "birther law."

Not to her credit, she did it because it put too much power in the hands of the Secretary of State, not because it's fucking retarded.
