Do people actually do this...?

Post by anarky »

Do people actually watch movies on the tiny screens of their phones, or is this something the phone manufacturers and wireless providers like to promote the fuck out of to get people to buy pricier equipment and eat up bandwidth?

I see stuff about it all the time, but I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone watch anything longer than a 5-minute video clip on a phone. Portability is one thing, and it's cool, but a full movie on a screen the size of your hand or smaller just seems like a waste.

Not trying to sound insulting if you do, just curious if this is a real phenomenon or manufactured to convince people it is.

Long before I had a touchscreen phone capable of storing entire films in its memory, I was at a movie theatre with some friends and it was the opening midnight showing of whatever the big summer tentpole film was. And we were in Burbank so it was crazy crowded(which I know what youre thinking; why the tutsifruitsy would we subject ourselves to that? Well, that's what we used to do) Anyway, we got to the theatre early and had about an hour to kill before the movie started, and my friend had The Dark Knight loaded on his phone and I watched a solid twenty minutes of it.
If you think about the size of the screen of your television and the distance you are away from it compared to the size of a screen in your hand, it's not really all that different. Hold your flat hand up in front of your face in between you and your TV and move the hand until it completely covers the TV. Holding the phone 8 to 10 inches away from your face is about the same viewing field.
Now, I can't see any reason to upload and watch an entire film on my phone, but watching one won't make you crosseyed or anything.

Here's another 'Do people really do this?' I keep seeing Toilet paper commercials where people are offended because the spare TP roll isn't inside a cheap little cardboard pastel container. Why are the buttwipe companies trying to make this a 'thing'? The functionality of thebproduct is universally unambiguous. You wipe leftover shit off your tushie with disposable paper and then flush it down with the rest of the feces. Having the roll "naked" in your bathroom is hardly offensive. That third rate Jack Black wannabe tool calling it "inappropriate" makes me want to buy any Roll BUT yours.
