Super Bowl Commercials

How the hell did advertising companies trick the entire country into being excited about commercials?

Oh, and I just saw the Ferris Bueller commercial people have been talking about all week. It was terrible.

I like "The Bark Side". That one is cute. Although I don't understand how ANY of it translates into selling Volkwagons.

I was watching the "Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials" TV show this week. They showed that Cindy Crawford Pepsi commercial that everybody jerked off to twenty years ago. My first thought was, 'Wow, her tits are kinda tiny.'

Darth Vader USED to be the #1 Villain of all time.
Now he's just a sad, pathetic ad whore who shills for every single product ever made. What a fucking toolbag.

You're thinking of Ozzy Osborn.

When was Ozzy a villain? And if he was, he was nowhere near #1. Nor Top Ten. Or even Top 50.

Around the time he bit the head off of a bat and was accused of satanic worship.

I didn't watch much of the game, so I didn't see many of the commercials. I saw a couple Doritos commercials, few seconds of what looked like the Mos Eisley Cantina, an exercising dog, a commercial for the Battleship movie(which looked worse than I expected), and a GI Joe movie trailer.

Aside from questions of bad and good, how the fuck do you go from two kids calling out numbers to Liam Neeson fighting aliens?

Y'know, if they Hadn't called the movie Battleship, it almost looked good/cheesy enough to go check out, what with Neeson being in it and all.

That's sorta what I thought. There's no need to slap random board game names on unrelated sci-fi thrillers.

Rollo, I'm guessing you also felt as giddy as a schoolgirl when Bruce Willis said, "Call me Joe." That clip alone was better than the entire first movie.

Kicking Stephen Sommers off the film automatically improved the film 700%. This Chu kid gets it.

I get the feeling the new GI Joe movie might actually be watchable. But I could be wrong.

I didn't notice Neeson in the trailer for Battleship. Will he be the one that mutters the line "You sank my battleship"?

This morning I turned on the local news for about 10 minutes before I left. They made a brief mention about the Caucus finally being counted. The briefly mentioned the game. The rest was about the commercials. Seriously, why do people put such importance on them? Any other day of the year they are considered annoying.

Neeson plays the "tough as nails" Admiral. The "cocky young Lieutenant" Hero Guy is boinking the Admiral's Daughter, so they're "butting heads" and "don't like each other". By the end of the film, Neeson will have a "reluctant admiration" for the kid.
And every other cliche/trope/meme they can cram into the movie.

I can't wait for the Connect Four movie.

I missed 90% of the game and hoopla. Just didn't give a shit. I saw all the commercials I was interested in online already and I couldn't care less about either team. Even when I was watching I made a Shamrock Shake run.

The Avengers trailer did give a bit of a chubby though.

You know the Coke commercial where the polar bears are watching the Super BowlTM Big Game (sorry, NFL!) and one goes out and plays a mini-football game with other bears, involving a Coke bottle?

I really, really wanted to see the bottle explode in the bear's face at the end. And I say that with the full knowledge that bears are our last line of defense against otters. You simply don't toss around a glass bottle of carbonated beverage for an extended time without some sort of repercussions.

That's what I was thinking when I saw that commercial.
