new site idea
so i've been thinking for a while about a new site to develop, kind of in the vein of the other site but all about spider-man. i can't really find a good community-based spider-man site. it would also have a database of all comics and such. the only site that comes close to this is http://www.spiderfan.org but i think that site sucks much ass.
i've already got a domain name, but i just wanted to know if you guys thought it would become as popular as other site...[ }8{ ]

uhhh maybe, ya never know, I personally like talking about the silver age stuff, but I am not well versed in Spider-lore to deal with anything past about 1983 or so, so as long as there's a Ditko section I would be in....
Who knows, it may take off, but from visiting HCrealms for info on herclix, I am pretty sure that I don't much get along with the current generation of superhero "fans" too good [beard]

Is that the Punisher 1st app? I've got his 2nd someplace, but not that one. Piss me off.
Yeah, Vyn, a Spidey site would be right up my alley - but it's so hard to say how "popular" something's going to be or not to be..... I think he's a pretty popular fella myself.
The big thing is getting sponsors and having people pimp your site for you so the geeks will come by the hundreds..... you'd want to make sure Marvel.com was cool with you linkin them in there - and who knows, maybe they'd return the favour if you could get the membership up high enough. They have their own Spidey page, but no forums are linked to Marvel.com at all - which I've always found VERY strange.
It would also have to be majorly toned down from this place - much more like the (almost always inane) discussions going on at the other site. Do you want that, or do you want a more "mature" type thing? Either way, I'll be member from day 1 if you get it up and running.
Spider-man comics - eh...so-so. Haven't read very many, but the firts MK storyline was really cool.

the MK story was cool... but it got old. i'm excited by "friendly neighborhood" spidey because of wieringo's art. he's awesome, and his new version is right up my alley - very ditkoish. i'm apprehensive about "friendly neighboorhood" because of peter david. i just think he's a big fat shmuck. amazing has been amazing, and i haven't really been following any of the other titles. i have the hardcover verison of the first 30 or so issues of ultimate spider-man, which i thought was okay...
thanks for all your comments. i'm going to do this, but it's going to take a while. i just wanted to get a soundboard about whether this would fly...

Oh yeah. I loved it the first time I saw it in theaters, but when I got it on DVD I couldn't watch it. Soooooo fucking boring. I kept forwarding it through the boring parts ( which was 80-85% of it). The goofy ass Power Ranger Green Goblin didn't help either. [:D]
I still don't think I've seen it all the way through since that first time in the theater.
I never really got too much into the comics becuase there were so many and they seemed to crossover every 3 or 4 months. It seemed worse than the X-titles (which was a big reason I stopped buying those. That andthe Age of Apocalypse nonsense). I only picked up the first 12 Spidey MK issues because I heard how good it was (and it was a self-contained story). And they were pretty darn good, IMO. That reminds me, since they didn't seem to make it a very big deal in the MK...is Eddie Brock really dead?
Also, I'm really happy that the Spidey/Black Cat series is FINALLY getting finished. It's only been 2 YEARS since issue 3 came out. [roll] Kevin Smith is lucky he's such a good storyteller.

You need to start buying Amazing, Diabolical. There hasn't been a hint of any crossover horseshit since Straczyinski took over the book (mind you, there hasn't been a hint of Sandman, Doc Ock, Scorpion, Kraven, Mysterio, Green Goblin, Hobgoblin, Vulture or even The Shocker since he took over either). The writing is very crisp, the art excellent. It's the Spidey flagship.... buying any other title without getting ASM would be uncivilized.
