Merry Christmas and happy birthday to me, my wife told my family that I wanted to start flying lessons and they all chipped in, and I have about 6 sessions (out of a minimum 40) banked up. My first lesson is next Saturday at noon!

Wow. That's awesome.

Funny. Last week, you told me you'd put strangers' dicks in your mouth even if they didn't give you a dollar each time, but since they were paying you, you may as well spend it on something extravagant like flying lessons.

(Seriously, though, that's pretty fucking awesome. The lessons, not sucking off strangers, which is none of my business.)

Yeah, it's always been a "that would be cool" kinda thing, but there is a small airstrip basically 5 minutes away from my house. When we first moved here I looked to see if there was a flight school there, and didn't find anything. Then sometime this past year I stumbled upon their information and the idea became a lot more concrete. I've been contemplating it since at least June, when I spoke to my aunt about it. She retired from the FAA in 2017 (she was Associate Administrator For Aviation Safety) so I figured she would have a strong opinion one way or the other. She was all for it.

It will be a pretty long haul, but our finances are starting to improve to the point where I might be able to ramp up the sessions to more than once a month sometime in 2023.

A nude flight school?

The lesson was awesome. I probably spent ~45 minutes of the hour in full control. The only thing that was hands-off for me was the landing. We covered the "four basics" of flight: climb, level flight, turns, and descent, as well as constant-speed climb and descent, and navigating. We took off heading NW, climbed to 2500', did some turns then a complete 360° turn, climbed to 3000' and flew across the Hudson River. Then he had me navigate using the Heading Guage, then using the GPS directing us back to the airport, where he took the controls for landing.

We also did a full ground-check before taking off, which is just a checklist of things to inspect on the plane before getting in, and everything leading up to takeoff.

Funny thing is Life360 thought I was driving, so it tracked the entire flight. My wife got an alert that my maximum speed was 115mph!
