So... I have an idea for a website of sorts... I was wondering how one goes about setting up a site to which a membership (paid) would be required. Can't say toooo much in this thread about the exact nature of the site, but let's just say that under 18 folks would not be allowed to see it if their folks had anything to do with it.
How would a person set up such a site (as in hosting, how the fuck does the payment parts work, etc)
I can ask more direct questions after some sort of clarifying answer as to how one would begin/execute the basic "starting bits"
I know this doesn't make perfect sense but I hope you get the idea... after a bunch of nudge-nudge wink-wink posts I can elaborate a bit
Well, there's the obvious requirements I guess: a server, a domain name... and bitchin' product. About accepting payments, there's always Paypal - but I'm thinking you'd have to register "such a site" as a business of sorts. Best part about that, though, is being able to write off certain bills and other costs as business expenses.
yesh, jj is correct - the basic requirements for a website include a domain name and web hosting space.
taking payments can be done any number of ways, but paypal could be the best way depending on the content of the site. i'm not sure if they associate themselves with any "adult" oriented content. i've not seen it done that way, anyway...
aside from paypal, you can set up online payment processing through your site, but it means having a "merchant account" with each major credit card you want to accept, and having SSL (secure socket layer) encrypted payment available. most hosts have SSL, but merchant accounts are very expensive and a pain in the ass to deal with.
there are other online payment companies that deal strictly with accessing content on a site (paypal is used for many different things - selling goods, paying for auctions, as well as web content...) but i've never had to deal with them very much so i can't say what is entailed in using those systems.
basically, i could use more info before i made a real judgement on what would be necessary... i promise i won't steal the idea like i stole all of chux's comic book ideas and sold them to rob liefeld...
If it's an adult oriented site then PayPal is out of the question. I've bought some "adult items" online and you can't use paypal because they track the URL's and will then I think either cancel the payment or shut down your account all together.
some webhosting companies offer commerce packaging for selling items off your webpage. as far as paying to get access to a page, the best way to find out is to look at who is hosting similar sites.
You can use this site to find out who is hosting and who owns a domain. You can e-mail them from it too.

Was it a donkey show?
I'll bet it was a donkey show.

So that's why the 'tard was at Comic-Con hyping "The Big-Thighed Adventures of Doodooman." I tried to kick his nuts, but he ran like a schoolgirl.

Why in fuck's sake would Slicker pay to see a donkey show over the interent when he can just go over to his mom's house between 10 and midnight?
I've never seen one of those, but one time, your father walked in on me and your mom and he said, "Wow, honey, I didn't know you were into donkey shows!"
Mabudon's website idea actually invloves photos and video of me with all of your mothers.
You knew that was coming...that's why you closed your eyes and turned your head. I'm suprised you didn't yell "NOT IN THE FACE!!!"
