behold: STARSCREAM
i've had a bunch of computer components together for quite some time now, a case, a motherboard, processor, vid card, and recently (last xmas...) received a sound card too...
mobo: MSI KT4AV
proc: athlon xp 2200+ 2.0Ghz
vid card: GeForce Ti4200
sound card: soundblaster audigy
ram: 256mb DDR 333 pc2700 (not that much...)
well, it's been sitting around for a while not finished, but after the wedding and all, i have been granted an allowance and i've used it to finish off this box... to that end, here's the rest of the items i've purshased to create STARSCREAM:
hard drive: 200Gb SAMSUNG SpinPoint P Series
dvd-rom: ASUS Silver 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM
dvd burner: NEC Silver 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 4X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner (oh, my...)
ram: 1Gb DDR 333 pc2700
this thing is gonna cook. on that huge hdd, i'm going to put Windows XP pro, linux mandrake and linux fedora... should be really fun! not only that, but it's future-proof, because i can add 2 more Gb of ram, and upgrade the processor to an athlon xp 3000!
btw... all of this was bought at http://www.newegg.com - they're the best in price AND service...

yeah, totally... i've done a lot of business with a lot of online retailers, and newegg gets all my money now - their shipping is lightning fast, and they have very competitive prices. i'm willing to pay a little more at their store because i know i'm going to actually GET the item... and fast...
Life is short. STUNT IT!

i used to, but after going for the rock-bottom cheapest all the time it was a mixed bag... i bought my digital camera through an e-tailer that i found on there, and it wasn't a great experience. i finally got it, but after a month and a half. turns out, they didn't have it in stock, but charged me for it anyway. i emailed them a couple of times to no avail, and thankfully they had a costumer service number on their site and DOUBLE thankfully they actually ANSWERED!
well, they basically said "oh, it's on back-order." i asked "is it your normal policy to charge people for something you don't have in stock?" he said "no." i asked him "which will be faster?" he said "what?" i said "my refund or my camera?" he promised to send it expedited shipping right then and there, and i asked if that would be faster than the refund - he said "yes, definitely" and i finally got it... and that was one of the good ones!
i had to file a BBB complaint against another e-tailer when i needed to buy a new processor. that too was "on backorder" and when i finally received something from them, it wasn't the correct item which was incompatible with my motherboard. i had to refuse shipment and get my CC company to dispute the charge, and i filed the complaint with the BBB of oregon... and i wasn't the only one.
newegg's prices are competitive but their lightspeed shipping and quality service put them over the edge on most other PC parts e-tailers.
