computers are cool - they are the reason you are here right now! Hopefully, JJReason can build one and prove once and for all, Canadians are somewhat intelligent.

HD Television

Post by Eternal Padawan »

So here's what I want to do. I want to buy a laptop because my current PC is about eight years old and running Windows ME.

And then I want to buy a nice good sized 32" HD TV because I'm watching a borrowed 20" CRT Sony hand me down and I think I deserve better.

But what I want to know is, can I buy a television and somehow use it as a monitor for my computer. Say I want to get a wireless keyboard and mouse and sit on my couch with my laptop hooked up to my nice new TV set on the other side of the room. is that feasible? What do I look for in terms of connectivity/interface. Both on the computer and the television.

Help!

HDMI connectors at both ends will relay the highest-quality, though i don't know of any lappys that have that. you can get a DVI to HDMI converter, and that should do the trick. i know my macbook pro has a DVI output.

Know I'm about a month late on this one, but I'll chime in.....

Some LCDs have DVI input, like mine does, and then you can skip the adapter and just go DVI and plug the audio in on a separate connector if you so desire, I hardly ever have the audio unmuted on my laptop...kinda weird for a sound guy, but that me. I do the DVI connection all of the time and edit with Final Cut pro using my 32" LCD as a second monitor....pretty good if you ask me.

So, since I'm a month late, did you get the TV already and figure it out?

sorry to break it to you, james dave, but eternal padawan won't be buying any tv's any time soon. he was shot by deckardsmith in what can only be another attempt to take over my website, and now we're caught in another crossover that will take way too long to resolve itself and drive readers away from all but the core titles. at least there's no clones in this one. oh, wait. there probably are. shit.

anyway, how's married life treating ya? much the same as the past 5ish years of living in sin, i'd expect...

Peace
