They sent me an e-mail to confirm they had shipped nothing, and that everything else was shipping later? :???:

I logged into their site and verified this. Even though the status is listed as "partially shipped," not a single item has shipped yet.

The dumbest thing is, this e-mail was sent a day before one of the items is supposed to ship. Why didn't they wait a day until they had actual news?

i guess they figure it's better to send out an email instantly that says absolutely nothing than to get a bunch of emails saying the customer never received a confirmation of their order... of course, a simple "order confirmed for the following items... you will receive an email as each item ships" would probably be more appropriate, but this way they create one system that handles all emails, regardless of whether or not that system makes sense for the issue at hand.

But I got the order confirmation three days ago. There was no problem there.

It's about as goofy as TRU's order status. First it's "Order Received." Then it goes to "Items Located in Stock." There it languishes for a week before shipping. What, did you have to send in a team of commandos to rescue it?

Overstock.com beats them all, though. I used to order from them, and stopped for various reasons (one being the guy who runs it is an insane lunatic who makes Rush Limbaugh look like a liberal, which isn't too bad in itself, but he donates millions of dollars to anti-teacher initiatives, which a family mainly supported by a teacher's salary shouldn't be supporting financially). I'm glad I dropped them when I did, as customer service appears to have gotten much, much worse (folks receiving the wrong item, then being told they'll be charged a second shipping charge to get what they ordered, plus they have to ship the wrong thing back at their own expense).

Anyhow, overstock.com makes up tracking information! I thought it was a little weird that the tracking info was on their own page and gave highly detailed postal information that even the post office doesn't provide, as well as maps. I didn't question it, though, since everything arrived when they said it would. But then came the shipment where, according to overstock, it got to the next town over and stopped, but the same tracking number used on usps.com said it hadn't been shipped! When it finally arrived, it was postmarked several days later than overstock was providing tracking info for!

I've read of other people with similar "bogus tracking" issues that were worse. That was pretty much the last straw there.

wow, WTF??? why would anyone be 'anti-teacher'... that just doesn't make any sense!

I'm not lumping all Republicans in one basket here, but a large number of the ones in power think that all the problems with education stem from teachers (not an insane lack of funding and parenting). They think their pay should be based on how their classes improve on test scores from year to year (never mind if they get a group of dumb kids); believe that teachers' unions and their bargaining power should be eliminated so that principals and other administrators have more power to punish, cut the pay of, and even fire teachers (never mind that most schools are more about politics and kissing ass than a presidential primary); and that private school vouchers are the way to go.

Keep in mind that, in 2002, the Secretary of Education stated that the NEA (National Educators' Association, the biggest teachers union) was a bunch of terrorists. I'm not making that up. It may have been in the midst of the "if you even slightly disagree with the policies of the Bush administration, you are an unpatriotic asshole who supports the terrorists," but it was still said. And it actually convinced some ass-backwards yokels that the NEA was actually planning to plant bombs and brainwash kids rather than, oh, demanding teachers get a cost of living adjustment that their contract requires but the district doesn't want to deliver.

Vouchers can't work. Private schools actually have less stringent requirements than public, and many don't even require their teachers to be credentialled. It's a backwards strategy by the people who are scared shitless their kids will be beaten up or corrupted in public schools: "Maybe if we help the parents of the bad kids afford to send them to private schools, they'll be better kids!" I really don't grasp the logic of politicians sometimes. Though it can be used as a tool to get votes from, say, a dirt-poor parent who thinks her kids might (gasp!) be exposed to evolution if they don't go to a church school she otherwise can't afford.

We're the only developed country where evolution isn't taken as fact. That's fucking embarassing. I believe in God and Jesus and still think the creation story in Genesis is nothing more than a story. (Otherwise God created the earth twice in two different ways and people are too stupid to recognize that.)

I got an e-mail this evening that says the Cobra Legions shipped today and everything else is waiting. So it was a "we shipped NOTHING!" e-mail after all.
