The Wilhelm scream was likely performed by Sheb Wooley, perhaps best known for singing "Purple People Eater."

There are also apparently three screams that are called the Wilhelm. That page is pretty interesting, though I'm sure I saw it years ago.

There are more than three screams, just that three of them are the most recognizable, therefor the most used. It's fun trying to use them and get them by in a track, they are so over the top and poor recordings it can create a fun challenge if you are bored.
