The second best show on TV (after Boardwalk Empire)

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Moderators: Zero, John Madden, Bob Ross, General Zod, Richard Simmons, Batman

Then the writers should be commended on successfully knowing how to wank people who grew up in the 80s.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Wow. Somebody sounds jealous. ;)

I love an obscure Pop Culture reference. If I'm in a movie theatre with 200+ people and somebody onscreen makes a Pop culture reference that only me and maybe one other guy laughs at, I feel awesome. because I'm hipper than everybody else in the room.

I assume you're kidding, but one of my friends actually does this, and he makes sure to laugh harder and louder than anyone else around just to show that he gets it. It bugs the shit out of me.

I missed the first 5 minutes of the show. Didn't hear any Princess Bride lines.

Wasn't impressed with that episode.

Tunnel Rat was arguing with Scarlett and Roadblock, who were complaining about his lack of hygiene. TR stuck his fingers in his ears and said, "I'm not listening! Not listening! Humperdinck, Humperdinck, Humperdinck!" (In exactly the same singsong manner that Carol Kane does it in the movie.)

It came across less as a pop culture reference and more like the way a nerd would actually talk. That's what made it cool. Princess Bride and Star Wars are the sort of movies that dorks like us actually quote in real conversations (I've heard as many as ten PB lines in five minutes of conversation with some friends), and quoting them in a seemingly realistic way rather than being heavy-handed is pretty rare in any film or show.

Damnation.

We went to visit the wife's family. Got to their house around 9:35, and partially caught the new episode. Got home tonight and realized that, though I programmed the DVR to tape it, I stupidly shut off the power strip (like I used to do when we left for more than 24 hours, back before we had a DVR that needed power) and it didn't tape.

Damnation.

Have to wait until 10 tomorrow morning to see (or tape) it.

And this one looked fucking major-league super awesome as shit in a can from what I saw. Not only did Wild Bill make an extended cameo, but some events appeared to occur that would both potentially alienate Baroness from Cobra Commander and seriously undermine any efforts the Joes put forth to convince Flint of their innocence. Not to mention one of the most unexpected (and fanwankery in a good way) twists, the previously unremarkable thug Zartan becoming merged with a high-tech suit that allows him to mimic anyone. A suit that's skintight, mostly silver and black, and includes a brown hood for reasons that may or may not have been explained in the bits I missed. In just a few minutes, he used his abilities more effectively than in the entire run of the Sunbow cartoon, and in most of the Marvel comic (excluding when he took Ripcord's place for several issues). Oh, and when the suit malfunctioned, it burned the areas around his eyes, leaving black markings. Yes, they turned generic biker thug Zartan into fucking classic Zartan in a single episode.

Fuck. I really want to see this one NOWNOWNOWNOWNOW!!!

you should put it on a separate outlet/strip - turn everything else off, but leave the DVR box running. before we dropped cable all-together, that's what we did. we turn off the power-strip whenever the tv/dvd/wii isn't being used.
Life is short. STUNT IT!

I could do that. That would be a good idea.

As for the episode, everything I said before, plus a nod to everyone's (least?) favorite Roadblock surrogate, Heavy Duty!

That episode was way better than the last episode with Tomax & Xamot. I missed the Heavy Duty reference...but I never heard of him until I bought the TRU 5-pack with him in it. Zartan now makes sense to me. I never understood his background from the original cartoon series.

Shipwreck is supposed to show up in the next episode.

Really? Judging from the title on the guide, I was thinking Snow Job, or possibly Frostbite, White Out, Avalanche, or Alpine. Then again, they may be airing them out of order. I know an upcoming episode actually shares the name with everyone's favorite Joe who should've had a heavy Spanish accent in the old cartoon (seeing as how he's Mexican-American and grew up as close to the border as one can be without actually crossing over into Mexico) but didn't.

The Heavy Duty reference came up twice: Roadblock says the only other guy he knows of with the same size shoe is his cousin Hershel (and then he asks Duke about this later). Heavy Duty prior to the movie was named Lamont Morris; in the movie and since (except for the IDW series), his file name has been Hershel Dalton. In everything except for the movie (which was a mess because they were smoking crack instead of writing), he either is Roadblock's cousin, or completely replaces him. (The IDW series is especially weird here; a guy named Marvin Hinton, who is clearly the classic Roadblock in every sense, goes by Heavy Duty, and there's no second character.)

I lost track of episode numbers. The guy I mentioned will show up in Episode 16, which is in 2 weeks.

Episode 15 (this week) will have one of the guys you mentioned. Snow Job. The other is Timber.

Episode 15 promo:

Renegades is being put "on hold" after this season.

http://www.hisstank.com/gi-joe-news/gi- ... led-10265/
“…we’re very pleased with the performance of G.I. JOE RENEGADES on The Hub. The series will go on hiatus at the end of season one while the second installment of the G.I. Joe movie franchise is being produced so Hasbro and Hasbro Studios can ensure the creative and storyline continuity that fans of the films and the series expect. We’ll have original episodes into the summer and we envision resuming new animation following the movie.”

"We're going to put the show everyone loves on hold for a bit to focus on the sequel to the shitty movie everyone hates." Brilliant.
