Re: star wars
It's more about the Chinese getting their shit together. After all it's them that paint the figures. It's interesting that when everyone else is moving to 3&3/4 scale Hasbro chooses to put out a larger scale. I'm going to predict it'll be a limited range and not last long. When the new movies and all that dross show up people will want every damn character in figural form and the six inch scale won't be viable. Hasbro should have stuck to the core characters for six inch and not done Biggs and shit like that. Also kept it to groupings like all the ESB bounty hunters or Imperial top brass. kept it all tight and specific.
I have never read any of your posts, but from what I can learn I should say that for people who like the kind of posts you deliver, they are just the kind of posts such people like.

Re: star wars
Biggs is in 3 3/4", not 6". The furthest-from-main-character they've done so far for 6" is Greedo, from wave 2, and he's being released alongside Han so he makes sense in that context.Jargo wrote:Hasbro should have stuck to the core characters for six inch and not done Biggs and shit like that. What I'd really like to see Hasbro do next year and for the films after that is to stick to one 3 3/4" line. Forget the $6 Saga Legends, forget the $10 Black Series, and create an $8 line of figures that looks like what we got in 2007. A good mix of heroes, villains, and background characters that appeals to a wide variety of fans, including some key upgrades but not focused entirely on them. The articulation has to be acceptable but not every single character needs 14 points - I was fine when cantina patrons had swivel elbows or some figures didn't have knees. They could even go the 2005 route with action features or accessories included with main characters but more detail and articulation on secondary ones, which is also similar to how they did The Clone Wars line for a while. Keep it focused mainly on the new films during the summer (or whenever they're released), with a healthy mix of Rebels figures during the fall/spring when it's actually on TV, and pepper in PT/OT/EU figures after the initial rush of the film has died down a la the 2002 line (as, frankly, it's not like there are too many more OH MY GOD I GOTTA HAVE THAT figures from the current films).
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

I saw that 30" Vader at a Walmart. Is it supposed to be this decades answer to "My Buddy"?Diabolical wrote:I want to see a full line of these 30" figures.

Re: star wars
31 inches and only 7 points of mere swivel articulation. Big screw holes all over the back of it. Flimsy cloth robes. No lightsaber blade. Not that impressive.

Lean a little closer--I don't think it's quite strong enough to make it over the Atlantic.
Baby Nark likes to shake 30" Vader's hand and say, "I shake-a Darf Vadah's hand!" Maybe Santa or the Clearance Fairy will bring him one.

Re: star wars
I'd buy the fuck out of an Artoo and Threepio, maybe even a Boba Fett, at that scale.

Re: star wars
Ok I can see that some stuff is skimped on to bring it in at the price it is, but seriously, plug the screw holes for aesthetic reasons.
A robots of Star Wars series at this scale would be pretty cool. By which i don't mean every damn astro droid there ever was. but interesting stuff like FX-7 and The Deuce. The ANH droid sale gang and all that. Stuff that doesn't always translate well into small scale.

I have the voice controlled R2-D2. He's around 18" tall. If it wasn't 60% off, I wouldn't have bought it.

Re: star wars
The 31" Vader is sort of neat. It's definitely more of a conversation piece than a real figure or statue. The tiny little lightsaber hilt is what kills the look of it for me. I can't believe Walmart opted for this and not the 6" Black Series - it's mainly just weird to see something so huge in the action figure aisle that takes up a ginormous amount of retail space. The next two figures planned are a ROTS 501st Trooper and ROTS Shock Trooper, so who knows what else they'll do.
I picked up a good 6" Sandtrooper yesterday. He looks awesome as all fuck, but the giant rubbery backpack makes the whole figure feel a little cheaper. The level of detail on the armor and accessories is astounding.

Re: star wars
Speaking of overly large and ridiculously overpriced Star Wars figures.
The "Gonk" Droid comes out on Wednesday. $90 fucking dollars?! Are you shitting me?? If it's in scale with Gentle Giants 12" line, that means its a six inch piece of plastic. What moronic douchecrotch is paying $100 after tax for this?!?! What is wrong with people???

Okay, I clicked on the link before reading the entire post, then came back to finish. Thank you for beating me to pointing out it's probably only six inches.
On the plus side, that fucking rubberized, um, antenna, something, thingy might come out as easily as it did on the vintage, but it'd be much tougher to lose.
