What do I need to look for in a Laptop?

My income tax refund is right around the corner and my computer is 8 years old and running Windows ME. It's time for an upgrade. i want to get something portable/take up less space. Maybe something I can hook up to a home monitor when i want to, but that's not necassary.

I'm not really sure what I want to use it for. Internet obviously. Maybe some home video editing.

Do you guys have any suggestions what I should keep an eye out for when looking? Keep in mind I am completely computer illiterate.

I just tonight bought a new lappy. I paid $728 (shipping and all). It's got a 1.8Ghz processor, Windows Vista, 1GB of RAM, yadda yadda. I basically bought it to take on the boat and watch movies. I could've just bought a basic DVD player but then where am I gonna store all of my pilfered internet porn?!

Ummm...yeah. What planet are you living on?!

I just needed a big enough hard drive because I've got quite a few full length downloaded movies (normal not porn style) and they're about 5GB apiece.

They have dropped in price, they arent nearly as expensive as the once were.

Newegg is definitely God when it comes to most consumer electornics.

You can build an awesome desktop on the cheap. For some stupid reason I didn't check them for my laptop but I would assume that they have some stellar lappys there.
