...to make room for another generic megacasino in Vegas.

I understand that they have this mentality that bigger is better, but, dude, where the fuck is the respect for history here? That's a fucking institution. There'd be no Vegas without the Stardust. The city of Gettysburg didn't pave over the battlefield because they thought a water park would get them more money, and that's essentially what Vegas is doing (though not on the same scale).

And what will the new place, The Echelon, be? Fucking generic, like every other fucking new casino. Either that, or with an Italian theme. Too many fucking Vegas casinos with an Italian theme of some sort.

There are some that are a bit older with cool themes, like ancient Egypt, dark ages Europe, pirates (though those fucktards got rid of the sinking pirate ship because they're all Flantdigs).

They should at least do a feudal Japan casino. That would rock. Everything looks like pagodas, the floor waitresses are dressed like geishas, there's a cool-ass ninja show (even if it's all fake). All the barkeeps are named Slicker. That could be worth smashing the Stardust for.

It's too bad they let Wayne Newton out before it imploded.

Actually, I don't think I ever went into the Stardust. There are actually several others that need to be either torn down or at least get a major overhaul. First up, Circus Circus. That place is a dump. Probably hasn't been upgraded since they shot that Bond movie ther in the 60s or 70s. Next, tear down the Stratosphere. If there is ever an earthquake, the Stratosphere is gone. The good news is that it will land in the ghetto, so it is almost like killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Tropicana and Excalibur need some work, also. I heard the Golden Nuget was rennovated and now is really nice. Still, the whole Freemont Street (the old Strip) seems a bit grungy.

They really should build a Japanese themed casino. Like in Grand Theft Auto.

I drive by all this crap every day, but we rarly go. Come to think of it, I haven't been in a casino since November, and that was just to meet some people I was working with from out of town.

My parents moved there about a year or so ago. They say it's because it's cheaper there. But they go to casinos pretty regularly. Usually to Sam's Town, but they seem to like Fremont Street.

Excalibur isn't too bad, but it could use some work. Circus Circus could probably be saved with a rennovation. Of course, they're trying to get away from the family aspect of Vegas (this week at least), so it's probably doomed.

I never went into the Stardust, either. But you'd think an actual institution would be a bit safer than some of the others. Then again, they did demolish the Sands a few years ago....

They also took down the Aladin, but rebuilt it. Bigger. Stronger. Better. Supposedly, it was bought out and is supposed to change it's name to Plant Hollywood (if they haven't done so already).

Planet Hollywood, Hooters, Hard Rock. Fuck, man, why don't some of these things just stay fucking restaurants?

I can go anywhere in Vegas and see hot chicks walking around in skimpy costumes for free. Likewise, I can go to Hooters here and see hot chicks in Hooters' outfits. Why would putting the Hooters name on a Vegas casino be a good idea? I'd rather see the hotties in cool costumes at, say, the Rio than in the same fucking t-shirt and orange shorts.

I don't know, man. I just live here.

My kid has been begging to go to the Rainforrest Cafe in the MGM for a couple months now. I'm running out of excuses. Last week was NASCAR, MBA All-star game was last month, E3/Porn Convention was before that. If you park in the garage at MGM, it is a pain in the ass to get from the garage to the Main entrance if you have a stroller.

Have you noticed the latest trend? Shopping. They are building malls and shopping centers out the wazoo here. There is a 200+ shopping center going in next to Frye's on Las Vegas Blvd, south of Mandalay Bay and there is another one on the east side of the airport.

Shit, you're right. I hadn't thought about a stroller at MGM. It's a pain on foot, and then the fucking place is this gigantanormous maze once you get in.

Bon Jovi put on a hell of a concert there, though. That's a show I really wouldn't mind to have a bootleg of. Jon and Ritchie singing Tom Petty was worth the price of admission (and dealing with the crazy fat chicks beside us). :mabs:

Did I make a post last year about what I had to do for work one day? Our New York City office did the study to estimate ridership of the monorail that goes from MGM up to Sahara. There have been less riders than expected, so they sent me out to ride the monorail. I had to walk from the entrance of each casino to the monorail and make notes of signs and time my trip. It was cool the first few stops because it was new and the monorail was near the pools, and it was early spring, so there were lots of bikinis. It got pretty old after that. The monorail sucks.

For those of you who haven't been to MGM, if you go from the parking garage with a wheelchair or stroller, you walk through a lower level shopping area to an elevator. The elevator goes up, and you end up outside the casino and you have re-enter the building through the main entrance after you weave your way through the line of people waiting for limos, shuttles, and taxis.

Watching the news, they said that there is a $2.5 billion plan to blow up the towers and renovate the Tropicana, but they are on hold. The next Vegas hotel to be imploded is the Frontier.

Well, if the Stratosphere ever comes down, it's going to land in the projects. Then whitey is going to owe some cash to whoever lives there.
