TV on DVD

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Moderators: Zero, John Madden, Bob Ross, General Zod, Richard Simmons, Batman

TV on DVD

Post by Eternal Padawan »

My god! Whoever invented season sets should be hugged and then kicked in the balls. Hugged because it's cool to get all the episodes without springing for two or three episodes at a time ( like those shitty Star Trek TOS DVDs), ballsacked since it's fucking expensive and I end up having to pick and choose which cool old TV shows I can buy and watch.

Right now I get/have gotten

Simpsons ( 1,2, and 3)
Law & Order (1)
Transformers (1, 2 Parts I and II)
Sex & the City (1,2,3, and 4)
Six Feet Under (1)
24 (1, and 2)
Friends (1)
Mr Show with Bob and David (1,2, and 3)
The old Rhino South Park DVDs
Muppets (whatevers out so far)
GIJoe (the two original series)
Band of Brothers

and the coup de grace

ALL the Monty Python episodes.

And it's only about one tenth of all the cool shit I would LIKE to be buying.

band of brothers

simpsons season 1

transformers season 1

x-files season 1-6

as you can see, the budgetary spending lies heavily in the x-files. 7 is already out, and i think i'll pick it up at or near the same time 8 comes out, which only leaves the last season. then i will branch out into other avenues of getting rid of my money...

A buddy of mine gets X-Files too. I asked him why every other season set costs $40-50 and X-Files is $100. He didn't know. It's because X-philes are chumps who don't know better than to shell out twice as much cheddar...same goes for Trekkers. All seven seasons in one fucking year?!? Is Paramount trying to kill people?!?!

The only shows I'd watch over and over are the Sopranos episodes. I can't really imagine forking big cizzash for tv shows that will be endlessly repeated elsewhere.... If I could order specific episodes of shows on a nice DVD for a reasonable fee, I might consider it. Kazaa? What's that?

I just saw a DVD of Jim Henson's Storyteller the other day. All 9 episodes. I may pick that up.

I could watch 24 over and over that would be about it. I might pick up the Simpsons but I have seen every episode numerous times. Plus I have already downloaded and burned my favorite episodes already.

for the most part, there are more episodes/discs involved in the seasons. also, there is a supply/demand dynamic - while 24 is more of a "that would be cool to have" thing and would reach a more varied tv viewer, it becomes more of an impulse buy, therefore is priced to sell impulsively, while the x-files won't have the production run of 24 because the fan base couldn't carry it, what fan base there is would be more ready to buy it for a higher price, and not only that but buy the entire series as opposed to just a certain season.

I say the Doggett seasons shoudl be less.

Is anybody getting Alias? I've never watched it, but my friend swears by it. He recommended 24 to me and that didn't dissappoint...

I did and do and will. I never watched Season 1, but i saw the first few episodes of Season 2 and that was enough for me to go buy the first DVD set. So then I watched the entire first season in the first three week hiatus of season 2. Going from watching an episode a day ( season 1) to watching one a week ( season 2) plus all the delays SUCKED. But my point was, the guy that said 24 was awesome says Alias is awesome too, so should I buy the Season 1 set? Opinions?

the only problem I have with "tv on dvd" is the ominous suggestion that, with the phasing out of recording technologies, you'd better get used to buying TV rather than makming your own hard copies as you watch...

Oh, has anyone decided to get Trailer Park Coys, seasons 1 and 2??? Come on ya louts, I keep bringing the show up in different ways and NO-0NE EVER responds, except to say "never heard of it"
PLEASE, SOMEONE OTHER THAN ME.... please track down the pilot episode or something on kazaa or something and watch it and tell me what you think... I swear at least some folks here would downright love the show, it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen... PLEASE??

I found the Samurai Jack pilot episode and the "Powerpuff Bluff" compilation at Wal-Mart yesterday for $5.88. Not exactly a season box set, but it was so fucking cool that I bought some flowers and chocolates, rang Ma Tomassi's doorbell, and punched the guy who answered the phone. [Why did he answer the phone when I rang the doorbell? I don't know. That's why I punched him.]

Also, WTF is up with the Treehouse of Horror DVD? I would've got it (regardless of the box sets) if it had all the episodes. What a waste of plastic.

How many episodes are on it? I downloaded my favorite ones and burned them myself. Fuck spending money when it is completely free.
