Wow... This is a new level of "sick"

Today's article in the national AP:

The original article from the San Diego Union-Tribune:

Okay, I definitely think that convincing students that drinking and driving is dangerous is a good thing overall, but to actively lie to students and tell them their friends have been killed? That's just fucking demented. Worse, the police were involved in the charade.

Good lesson: you can't trust authority because they're lying SOBs. These idiots at MADD just made your job a lot harder, jjreason.

I don't know what to make of it. What if some despondent girlfriend/boyfriend runs and kills themselves at the news? I'm all for keeping kids away from drinking and driving, but my first impression is that this is taking it too far.

They did a program at my high school every now and then where kids would be taken out of classes to symbolize how many kids die from drinking and driving or some such bullshit, but we all knew what was going on right from the get-go and were just kind of like "meh."
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

i think at my school they wore black and didn't talk or do anything, just sat there in class all day. it seems like that was a bit more effective, especially for the kids who really pulled it off. it was kinda creepy.

Yeah, because you know they're not really dead.

I find it disturbing how many people are defending this. Do you teach grownups to not speed by calling someone up and saying, "Your husband just died in an accident. He was speeding." Then wait two hours and say, "No, he didn't! You learned your lesson, didn't you? Ooooooh, I got u good!"

Real good burn...
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

I read about this. It's definitely a bit over the top. In this day and age I wanna know who thought this was a good idea. I'm sure a lawsuit or 34 will be brought up for "emotional distress".

Because it was so long ago that I was in high school, these new fandangled ideas for drunk driving hadn't been thought up; we just got the rusted old crashed car dumped out in front of our high school that said "Don't Drink and Drive" Then they'd pick up the car and take it to another school.

I think the age to start driving should be raised to 20 with way more schooling and classes mandatory. Most people younger than that just aren't responsible enough to operate an automobile and have no business doing so. Teens cause the highest percentage of accidents out of all driver groups.
