Flash/Shockwave/All that jazz

computers are cool - they are the reason you are here right now! Hopefully, JJReason can build one and prove once and for all, Canadians are somewhat intelligent.

Flash/Shockwave/All that jazz

Post by anarky »

Okay, I've been asked by my esteemed employer(TM) to check into the software, etc, required to create and edit Flash and Shockwave presentations.

And so, since you rock at web design and know it, I'll ask you first.

Vynnie, what software, etc, are required to create and edit Flash and Shockwave presentations? Any recommendations? Warnings? Etc?

Obviously, if anyone else here knows anything about the software, feel free to chime in. I just know Vynsane knows Flash like Bo knows baseketball.

i'm actually not that much of a flash-o-phile. you would need the macromedia software, FlashMX to create/edit flash files. shockwave is just browser plug-in/media player.

you need software from macromedia

http://macromedia.com/

the full kit-n-kaboodle is macromedia studio. the most recent version is apparently version 8 - they must've skipped ver. 7 and went with the popular "two letter combo" marking (read: windows<b>XP</b>, adobe<b>CS</b>) with studio<b>MX</b> - don't ask me what the MX stands for... i don't know.

i've been meaning to use flash to create games and such. i'm not big on using it for all-over web design or navigation.

Flash is a powerful tool for web design / game design / animation .....
But remember, with great power comes a great responsiblity to make sure that you don't make something that sucks. I was using flash a lot when it first came out and it was pretty schnazzy back then...last time I looked at it, the bells and whistles were full blown gongs and airhorns. Cool site for tutorials on all of your graphic/flash needs
http://www.pixel2life.com
They have tuts on flash, photoshop, dreamweaver....html, css, whatever...they got a lot of shit.
anyways....enjoy the power

Gotcha. I'm not a big fan of Flash myself for web pages (they take longer to load sometimes and usually do all sorts of stuff that give away the fact you're online), but the bosses wants it. (And I certainly wouldn't mind having one more supposedly complicated bit of software to add to my resume.)

Would you believe my sister-in-law's boss thought $30 an hour was damned cheap for me to update the address info and colors on his web page? Okay, you probably think I'm an idiot for taking so little, even from a family friend, but <b>GOD DAMN</b>, some of this stuff that I think is easy is worth a lot more than I'm making now, and it's just hitting me, so to speak. I just need to fill in a few holes (like Flash) and learn all the proper terminology (which I suck at, having learned everything I know by playing around) and I can do a quite a bit of cool stuff just on evenings and weekends.
